Educational Resources

For parents and teachers:

Whether you are a parent or a teacher, these children’s educational books are a great resource for teaching children about Canada.  Exploring Canada With Our Senses takes children from province to province, and from territory to territory, sharing the unique landscape, food, and activities of each one. It celebrates our diversity and leans into the Social Studies curriculum for elementary aged students.  It also leans into the Science curriculum, as it uses our five senses to experience each province and territory. It is an excellent book for discussing poetry, adjectives and phrases, as part of Language Arts.  The beautifully drawn artwork captivates kids and draws them in. This educational book is a great resource for elementary Social Studies, Science and Language Arts.
Anna’s Big Adventure: A 1950s Canada Immigration Story allows kids to step back in time and feel the emotions of a girl who leaves Europe to settle in Canada with her family.  She experiences the extreme climate, hard times, and the community of immigration life. Children can “step into her shoes” and relate to her emotions. Many immigrants are coming to Canada today and this book resonates with their experience, as well. It fits well into the Social Studies curriculum as a resource when studying immigrants who settled in Canada. It also highlights the emotions that Anna felt at each stage of the process. This opens the conversation of emotional awareness with our children and fits into the Health and Life Skills Curriculum. This educational book is an excellent resource for elementary Social Studies and Health and Life Skills.
